Most back support pillows are focused on where the majority of low back pain occurs around the lumbar area. How you sit affects the neck, and many back pain problems are caused by wear, tear and abuse that occur over a long period of time. Back pain doesn’t happen because of one single traumatic injury or event. Statistics show that some 80 percent of repetitive stress disorders, particularly in the lumbosacral area, are a result of fatigue, poor posture, and exhaustion. Here is where chair pillows come in to help prevent postural stress while relieving pressure and pain. This is where a chair pillow might come in handy.

Your spine’s center of gravity  is located at the lumbosacral area. The act of sitting produces a large amount of pressure on the disc. While you sit, tilt the back-rest of the chair  slightly backward at an angle of 95-105º. A seat that is too low places stress on the ischial tuberosities (sit bones). A seat that is too high places pressure on the thighs. If your seat does not have an adjustable height, you may need to use a footrest. The edge of the seat should not touch the back of your knees. The angle of the seat should be slightly forward to help maintain the normal curvature of the low back. There are as many different body shapes and seating types as there are different styles of back support pillows .
