Back Support Brace: Enhance The Healing Process

When recovering from fractures or a post operative fusion, a back support is prescribed to limit the motion of the thoracic or lumbar spine.  Too often this motion delays healing. The injury usually occurs at the lumber area of the back or the lumbo sacral junction. The two types of braces commonly used are:

•    The corset and the elastic back supports. An elastic brace limits the forward motion of the spine allowing fusions or healing to set in. This type of support is also worn by people with jobs that require  heavy lifting . This type of back support also aims to remind the user of  the safe and proper way of lifting heavy loads.

•    Rigid plastic or metal brace. Form fitting plastic molds that can restrict spine motion by as much as 60%

The most common injury that the  back brace support, back support brace or a posture support back brace is prescribed for is whiplash injury associated with vehicle or work-related injuries. Too many patients complain of some uneasiness between the neck and lumber spine which can turn into intense pain in the upper back if left uncared for. Should this occur, you are advised to see  your doctor immediately. He can  explain the cause to you and recommend therapy exercises specially  at the initial stage of the problem.
