Foods That Help Arthritis Pain

If you or someone you know suffers from arthritis, you know that this kind of pain can be destructive to everyday life. Many who suffer from arthritis, take a pain killer or a prescription from a doctor.

However, there are natural ways to get relief from this pain and one way is food that help arthritis pain. Certain foods have ingredients that help reduce inflammation and help to manage the disease. There are various foods that help relieve arthritis pain such as vegetables that have a high amount of vitamin C. Vegetables that are high in vitamin C are: broccoli, Brussels sprouts, mustard greens, white potatoes, kale and red cabbage.

Fruits that are high in vitamin C are: pineapple, papaya, kiwi, strawberries, lemons, grapefruit and oranges.

Carotenoids are also helpful when it comes to calming down arthritis pain. Carotenoids are antioxidants that can be found in some vegetables and fruits. Some think that the most helpful of carotenoids is beta-cryptoxanthin. Beta-cryptoxanthin may help lower the swelling that is associated with certain kinds of arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis. Such fruits and vegetables rich in this antioxidant are: carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, mustard greens, spinach and sweet red peppers.

Berries are another kind of food that helps lessen the pain of arthritis. Berries contain a high amount of bioflavonoids that act as a natural anti-inflammatory effect on pain. Berries that have a high amount of bioflavonoids are: blackberries, blueberries, elderberries, raspberries, boysenberries and strawberries.

Another food group that helps lessen arthritis pain is whole-wheat pasta and whole grains. Both of these food groups have selenium and research has shown that if your body has low levels of selenium, you are more apt to have severe osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Other foods that are high in selenium are: Brazil nuts, light tuna, oysters, crab, cod, lean beef, turkey, shrimp and wheat germ.

Green tea is a beverage that can also help with arthritis pain. It is the antioxidants in green tea that are most beneficial to one suffering from arthritis.

Because fish is high in Omega-3 Fatty Acids, they, too, can lessen the pain and inflammation that is associated with arthritis. Research has shown that omega-3 fatty acids can help those who suffer from arthritis. Examples of fish that can help ease arthritis pain are: herring, salmon, sardubesm abcivuesa and Rainbow trout.

Extra Virgin Oil also can help with arthritis pain because it contains antioxidants. Antioxidants help reduce inflammation that accompanies arthritis. Some suggest that one should never use olive oil because it is not a low calorie food and that consuming one or two teaspoons a day is all you need.

Another arthritic pain reliever is Turmeric. Turmeric is a spice and like many spices, has several effective nutritious benefits. This kind of spice is often used in curry dishes and may help manage arthritis pain in those who suffer from this kind of pain.

Chile peppers is another example of a food product that helps lower arthritic pain. Chili peppers are easy to find in most grocery store and some health professionals recommend supplementing one’s diet with chili peppers to balance one’s diet and to help lower one’s pain.

Even though eating certain foods cannot take away the pain of arthritis, some foods have a positive effect on arthritis pain. It is clear to many that by changing one’s diet can keep your joints in good health and be effective in managing your arthritis pain. Foods that help ease arthritis pain are also good for your overall health.
